Conforti Biographical Information

Angelo Conforti was born on October 16, 1887 in Siderno Marina, Calabria, Italy. His biological parents were Louis Correalle and Rose Parise. Given up for adoption at birth, he was raised by Cosmo and Raphell Figliomeni. He had four brothers and two sisters who were also given up for adoption. It is believed that the two sisters perished in a fire.

His brother Ralph is believed to have lived in Argentina where he was a merchant marine. Edward was a tailor who lived in Ellwood City, Pa. for a while before moving to New York. Victor Bandiera lived in Fort Dodge, Iowa and Joseph Figliomeni resided in Carbondale, Pa.

Angelo Conforti emigrated to the U.S. from Genoa, Italy on May 10, 1906. His name at the time was Angelo Giglio. After 19 days at sea, his vessel,"The Liguria", arrived in New York on May 29, 1906.

According to the ship's passenger list, his final destination was the home of his brother Joseph Figliomeni in Carbondale, Pa.

He did not make it to Pennsylvania until 1912, however. He was listed in a 1916 Carbondale directory as Angelo Conforti, residing with Domenick Figliomeni at 64 Fall Brook Street.

Arranged marriages being common at the time, Grandma (Maria Figliomeni) was sent from Italy and arrived on April 9th or 10th of 1920.

They were married at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Carbondale on April 21, 1920. Domenick Figliomeni served as best man and his wife, Rose Chiodo, was the maid of honor. The wedding was officiated by Rev. A.S. Cerruti.

Mr.& Mrs. Angelo Conforti later moved to Ellwood City where they rented an apartment at 629 Lawrence Ave. On May 11, 1925, they purchased their home at 111 N. 14th Street from Martha and James McConhay for $4,500. They raised 13 children and spent the rest of their lives in this house.
