On Saturday, November 28, 1998, Moon Township defeated Blackhawk for the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League Class AAA high school football championship by a score of 34 to 7 at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh.
Joe Conforti, son of Ron and Rose Conforti, started at both left offensive guard and defensive nose guard for Blackhawk High School.
The following sequence of pictures shows Joe making a tackle on a running back during Moon Township's initial possession (Joe is number 63 in the dark colored uniform):
This next sequence shows Joe helping to open a gaping hole in the Moon defensive line with a driving block that enabled Blackhawk running back, Trent Wissner, to gain a sizeable chunk of yardage in the final minute of the third quarter:
With approximately 6 and a half minutes left in the ballgame, Joe sits dejectedly on the sidelines following an unsuccessful onside kick after Blackhawk's only touchdown of the game:
These two shots of Joe were taken from the end zone as Moon quarterback, Pat Miller prepares to throw a touchdown pass:
